The Healthcare Provider Register

IVO is responsible for the Healthcare Provider Register. Under the Patient Safety Act (patientsäkerhetslagen), healthcare providers must notify IVO of new or amended healthcare services.

Anyone who intends to start a service that falls under the supervision of IVO must notify this to IVO no later than one month before the service starts.

As of July 1, 2023, IVO may subpoena anyone who has not fulfilled their reporting obligation. The injunction may be combined with a fine, which means that anyone who does not report their business to IVO risks becoming liable for payment.

If an activity is completely or substantially changed or moved, this must be reported to IVO within one month of the implementation.
If an activity ceases or is closed down, this must be reported to IVO within one month of the closure.

An annual fee for aesthetic activities

The annual fee for activities that carry out aesthetic surgical interventions or injection treatments is SEK 13 500. The invoice is sent at the beginning of the year to healthcare providers that have been active during the previous calendar year regardless of volume and turnover, or whether the activity was conducted during all or part of the year.

Information and form

Municipalities and regions can easily update data they are obliged to report through IVO’s E-service. The E-service provides an overview, and new registrations and changes can be made immediately.

Representatives of private actors need a power of attorney via Mina ombud (‘My representatives’ – Swedish Companies Registration Office) to log in to the E-service. They do not need to fill out this form.
