Assessed sheltered housing

Assessed sheltered housing is a type of housing for elderly people who may need help and support in the home and other readily accessible services and who also need to reduce unwanted isolation.

Assessed sheltered housing is intended for elderly people whose care needs fall short of in-patient care, but who no longer feel that it is safe to continue living in their own home. A further purpose is to reduce the isolation that many elderly people who live at home by themselves suffer from. The difference between ordinary housing and assessed sheltered housing is that the elderly person has the opportunity to live in a residence that may provide communal meals, cultural activities and company, etc.
